1. Moby Dick

The whale that gives the book its name is undoubtedly the protagonist of the story, although the narration is focused on his encounter with a ship commanded by Captain Ahab.

Moby Dick is tenaciously pursued by the whaler throughout the story. What drives him is a feeling of revenge, as the whale was responsible for making the captain lose a leg.

2. Cheshire Cat

It is one of the most famous animals in literature, due to Alice in Wonderland books and movies  .

In addition, his companions are also very remembered, like the rabbit, who is always worried about the time.

Cheshire can come and go as they please, being known for their wide smile.

3. Bagheera

This black panther is one of the characters in the famous novel  The Jungle Book, by British writer Rudyard Kipling. Their main action is to save Mogli’s life from the claws of the wolves and their leader Akela.

Both teach the child to survive in the wild and face all dangers. Furthermore, the panther’s personality in the book is similar to the species: cunning, wise, discreet, and silent.

4. Aslan

Although the book  The Chronicles of Narnia  gained fame a few years ago thanks to the movies, it was actually a saga written by CS Lewis in the 1950s. 

One of the most famous non-human characters was Aslan, a talking lion, son of Emperor Allende of the Seas.

It is a mysterious animal, very wise and compassionate, who becomes a guide for children while protecting and saving Narnia.

Aslan means “lion” in Turkish and is a word used to name the sultans, because of their loyalty and bravery.

5. Bear Puff

Finally, another of the famous animals in literature that became known for movies and cartoons. 

This cute honey-loving bear is the protagonist of the books created by Alan Alexander Milne,  and lives in a house built inside a tree.

The entire story of Winnie the Pooh takes place in Hundred Acre Wood and follows other characters, such as Piglet, Tigger, Rabbit, Ió, Owl and Guru.
