Kitten Lady: the woman who saves hundreds of kittens

Hanna Shaw, known on social media as the Kitten Lady, dedicates her life to saving orphaned kittens. In her house, more than 100 kittens have passed by and soon find a definitive family. She collaborates with several animal protection entities, which let her know when they receive a call. Then she rescues one of the most vulnerable animals in our cities.

Kitten currently lives in her home on the outskirts of Washington DC with her boyfriend, a professional cat photographer, three permanent cats (Coco, Eloise and Haroun, who moved in with her boyfriend) and temporary kittens that she feeds from a bottle.

But Kitten Lady doesn’t just save the kittens in her house. She also teaches the rest of the world how to take care of them if we find them abandoned.

Kittens – who need milk – are one of the groups of animals that are sacrificed the most in refuges and shelters. Before reaching a month and a half of age, they cannot eat alone. With a lack of skilled or available workers, newborns arrive without a mother to care for them and end up dying.

Munay the Peruvian kitten

In the summer of 2017, Kitten Lady was on vacation in Machu Picchu when she heard a kitten crying. He followed the sound and found a very small kitten, with whom the children were playing. He convinced the children to give him the animal, and just 48 hours later, he managed to return to the United States with Munay – the name he gave to the little one.

Munay, the Peruvian kitten, currently lives in a permanent home with a cat, her older brother. However, despite having traveled so young, she doesn’t forget her roots. Thus, Munay has helped to raise money for animal protection entities, and has already donated thousands of dollars so that they can continue saving kittens in Peru.

Chloe: the kitten who couldn’t walk

The last big story of Kitten Lady is starring Chloe. Our protagonist had gone to one of the animal protection entities with which she collaborates to rescue an orphan who had appeared alone. So they handed him Chloe. The cat was a little bigger than the ones that Kitten Lady usually collects. However, it had a peculiarity that made it especially vulnerable: its hind legs were paralyzed.

Not sure what was going on with the kitten, Hannah took Chloe home. After several consultations with veterinarians, specialists and several tests, it was found that the cat would not walk again. However, with its particularity, it showed us how we should love each living being, knowing its virtues and defects. Chloe cannot walk, but she is a very vivacious, intelligent and independent cat.

Chloe, like Munay, helped raise money to save other cats with the same problem as her. In addition to paying for the therapy of two or three other paraitic kittens, Kitten Lady has made several videos and teaches classes on how to care for cats with this type of problem.

Chloe saves lives!

Newborn cats are very vulnerable, and without a mother to care for them, or a person who knows how to do that, they are doomed to die, even though they are in protective entities. Kitten Lady showed us that it is possible to save hundreds of kittens, dedicating only a few hours a day to them. And with her dedication and hard work, she succeeds.
