Main Cynological Federations

The dog federations around the world are committed to maintaining the standards of pure breeds of dogs. They also promote the healthy and responsible breeding of these animals in order to ensure the well-being of dogs registered under their standards.

These organizations are increasingly involved in the fight against meaningless legislation. They provide legal assistance and work with  small groups and other non-governmental organizations that promote dog rights.

Most important Cynological Federations

These organizations are invaluable today as they support positive steps in teaching the public about responsible dog ownership. In addition, they train breeders and judges internationally.

Fédération Cynologique Internationale (FCI)

It is the International Cynological Federation.  It includes 95 members and contract partners – one member per country – who record their own  pedigrees  and train their own judges. The FCI recognizes 349 breeds worldwide, each owned by a specific country.

Breed ‘owning’ countries thoroughly describe the ideal standard for these breeds, in cooperation with the FCI Scientific Standards Committees.

These standards are the reference for judges in competitions held in FCI member countries, and also for breeders in their purpose of producing better quality dogs.

All member countries conduct demonstrations with an international reach, as well as work or hunting tests, agility and obedience skills, races, courses and herding tests. The results are sent to FCI headquarters, where they are analyzed and approved.

For more than 130 years, the American Kennel Club has been the leading authority in the United States on all things dogs. It acts as the main support for lovers of these animals.

Together with member organizations, they encourage the care of dogs as family companions. They promote research to advance dog health and well-being, advocate for their owners’ rights, and educate the public about responsible ownership.

Obviously,  the goal of all dog federations is to produce quality dogs, healthy in body and mind. Over the years, they have remained faithful to the motto created by the founders: “Always remember: we are a service organization. Dogs are not here for us; we are here for the dogs».
